Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and [Company legal name] (“we”), [Registered address, Hungary], VAT number [EU VAT number], for the use of SqueakEmail. By creating an account you accept them.

The service

SqueakEmail checks whether email addresses are likely to receive mail: their format, their domain and mail server, and, where the server allows it, whether the mailbox exists. We never send email to the addresses you check.

Your account

• Keep your password and API keys secret; you are responsible for activity on your account.
• Give us a real email address and confirm it. One person or business per account.
• You must be at least 18, or using the service on behalf of a business.

Acceptable use

You may only verify addresses you are allowed to process. In particular, you must not:

• verify purchased, rented, scraped or harvested lists, or lists for sending unsolicited email;
• use the results to send spam or anything that breaks anti-spam or data protection law (such as the GDPR or ePrivacy rules);
• try to overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or get around credit, rate or plan limits;
• resell the service without our written agreement.

To protect the service, lists with an unusually high share of undeliverable addresses are paused automatically for review. We may refuse a list, suspend an account, or close it for breaking these rules. If we close an account for a breach, unused credits are not refunded.

Credits and payment

• One credit is used for each unique email address that comes back deliverable or undeliverable. Credits are bought in one-time packs and do not expire.
• Credits for addresses that come back accept-all, unknown or disposable, and credits reserved for addresses that were never checked, are returned to your balance automatically.
• Duplicate addresses in a list are removed before checking and are never charged, and checking the same single address again within 24 hours is free.
• Prices are in US dollars. VAT or similar taxes are added where they apply.
• Buying a pack moves your account to that pack’s plan. Plans never move down when you buy a smaller pack.
• If you are a consumer in the EU, you have a 14-day right to withdraw from a purchase. Because credits can be used immediately, you agree when you buy that delivery starts at once, and the right of withdrawal ends for credits you have used. Unused credits from a pack bought in the last 14 days can be refunded on request.

Accuracy

Verification depends on how other mail servers answer, which we don’t control. Results are our best assessment at the time of the check, not a guarantee that a message will be delivered or that an address belongs to a particular person. Mailboxes change over time, so recheck lists you haven’t used for a while.

Your data

You keep all rights to the lists you upload. We process them only to provide the service, as set out in our privacy policy and data processing agreement, which form part of these terms.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for intent or gross negligence, or a consumer’s statutory rights. Otherwise, the service is provided as is, we are not liable for indirect losses such as lost profits or lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings; your lists and data are deleted with it. We may end the service with 60 days’ notice, in which case we will refund unused credits from packs bought in the previous 12 months.

Changes and law

We will email you at least 30 days before material changes to these terms. Hungarian law applies, without limiting the mandatory consumer protection of the country where you live. Disputes go to the competent courts of Hungary, unless consumer law gives you the right to use your local courts.
